A downrod is what holds the ceiling fan to the ceiling. Yes, this is a very straight forward explanation or observation in terms of what the downrod does. Without a downrod, your Kichler ceiling fan would need to flushmount to the ceiling. The downrod is specifically manufactured to work with your fan. You can’t use a downrod from another fan with your fan – typically, the screws and other requirements wouldn’t line up, and it wouldn’t be safe. The downrod holds all the weight of your fan, so you need to make sure the weight is distributed proportionally. Without the weight being distributed correctly and proportionally in relation to the ceiling fan, the fan can come crashing down. In general, it’s just not safe to use a downrod that hasn’t been tested with your Kichler ceiling fan.
The downrod comes with the ceiling fan, however if you have a problem with your fan and need to replace the downrod you may be able to find a replacement. You may need to reach out to Kichler customer or technical support in order to find the replacement.
